Darlene A Phillips

February 20, 1939 ~ September 8, 2019 (age 80)

Darlene A. Phillips, age 80, of Owatonna, passed away September 8, 2019 at her home.

Friends may greet the family 4-8:00 PM Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019 at the Brick Meger Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral at church.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, Sept. 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Owatonna. There will be a parish rosary recited at 3:45 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. 

Darlene was born to parents Louis and Rose (Nedved) Panos in Winneshiek, Iowa.  She graduated from High School in 1957 in Good Thunder, MN. She married Neal in 1957.  They moved to Milwaukee and then to Des Moines in the early years finally settling down in 1972 in the Meriden area to farm. She and Neal worked on the farm until they retired in 2006 moving into town. 

Her memberships included Eagles, Elk’s, American Legion, and the Sacred Heart Catholic Council of Women.

Darlene was a wonderful mother and made a point to spend time with each of her children as much as she could.  She was a free spirit that didn’t like to sit idle. She loved dancing, watching “her” ball teams, playing bingo with her daughter and granddaughters on Wednesday night at the club, attended plays her son performed in, her Saturday nights out with her son for church and supper, and the occasional day trip to Diamond Jo Casino. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Neal, of 50 years; parents; and one brother, Vincent.  She is survived by Douglas (Cindy) Phillips, Francis (Lori Helmer) Phillips, Mark Phillips, Mary (Russell) Gaul, David (Marci Pikula) Phillips, all of Owatonna; 11 grandchildren, Tasha Otterson, Daren (Amber) Phillips, Jessica (Jason Andrews) Holland, William (Delia) Phillips, Nicole Phillips, Dana (Bill) Miller, Matthew Phillips, Robert (Megan) Gaul, Daniel (Brittani) Gaul, Gabriel (fiancé Michelle Honsey) Phillips, Genevieve Phillips and 17 great-grandchildren.
