A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 25, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. Visitation will be from 9-11 AM. A parish rosary will be said at 8:45 AM. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Dorothy Horak was born May 21, 1922, in Merrill, Wisconsin, to Adolph and Anna (Shimpach) Horak. When she was three, the family returned to Owatonna, where she spent the rest of her life. Following graduation from Owatonna High School, she began a 39-year career with Josten’s.
On August 24, 1974, she married Kenneth W. Carroll, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They recently celebrated 45 years of marriage. Dorothy loved to travel and made her first trip to Europe in 1958. Later, she and Kenneth enjoyed traveling to Europe and the Holy Land together.
For decades, Dorothy was a member of the Sacred Heart Church Adult Choir. She was also a member of the Senior Sodality. She started the parish library, and belonged to the church sewing circle. She also belonged to the local Camera Club. Dorothy never forgot a birthday or other special occasion. Often a $2 was tucked inside the card. Her Christmas list was long, from all the family and friends she made along the way.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of Owatonna; her sister Donna Strawser of Constantine, Michigan; her sister Marian (Dick) Johnson of Owatonna; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Edna Cummins, Betty Phillips, and Vickie Klinkhammer; and infant brother Robert.
The family wants to acknowledge the wonderful care she received at Koda Living Community and Homestead Hospice.
