Duane R. Gallea, age 81, of Medford passed away September 11, 2019, in Faribault, surrounded by family.
Friends may greet the family from 2-5:00 PM Sunday September 15, 2019 at the Medford Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral mass at the Medford Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, September 16, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Medford. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit.
Duane was born in Faribault to parents Jerome and Dorothy (Joachim) Gallea. He graduated from Owatonna Senior High School in 1956. After graduation, he enlisted in the army and was honorably discharged 2 ½ years later in 1961.
He married Janette Klapperich in 1965 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Medford. He worked at Gallea Transfer for several years and then Owatonna Tool Company until his retirement in 1998. After retirement from OTC, he drove bus for the Medford School District for 19 years transporting kids to and from school as well as various sporting events. Duane loved driving kids.
Duane and Janette traveled to many states often taking off for long weekend adventures. They enjoyed camping with a group of friends and spending time with family. They were members of a card club that met monthly for over 35+ years.
He was a member of the Medford/Deerfield Knights of Columbus, the Msgr. Henry Speck Assembly – Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Medford Civic Club, American Legion, Steele County Township Board and a member of the Medford Township Board for over 40 years.
He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Eugene.
Duane is survived by, wife, of 53 years, Janette; sisters, Virginia Grass, Joyce Kelm, Judy (Tom) Beriou; step-sister, Helen Vardamen, sister-in-law, Rosemary Gallea.
