Elizabeth Ann Pfeifer, age 83, of Owatonna passed away January 2, 2020.
Friends may greet the family 5-7:00 PM Tuesday January 7, 2020 at the Brick Meger Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral at church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday January 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Catholic Daughters of America rosary will be recited at 4:45 PM on Tuesday before the visitation at the funeral home.
Betty was born on January 26, 1936 in Waubay, SD to parents Alphonse and Clara (Block) Pekron.
She graduated salutatorian from Waubay High School in 1954. She worked at Northwestern Bell until her marriage in 1956 to Jerald Esget. The two settled down in Owatonna. Betty became an LPN in 1971, and later worked as a home health aide for Steele County Public Health.
After divorcing Jerry, she married George Pfeifer in Owatonna in 1978. The two made their home in rural Steele County for 34 years until George’s death 2012.
Betty’s memberships included Catholic Daughters of America, Union member of Communication Workers of America, the Pioneer’s Club. She was an avid Bridge player and belonged to the Ladies Bridge Club and the Marathon Bridge Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Julie (Keith) Kiel, Jill (Chris) Prohaski, stepchildren, John (Cheryl) Pfeifer, Jim (Jan) Pfeifer, all of Owatonna, and Sue Pfeifer of Colorado; grandchildren, Joshua (Shelly) Kiel, Justin Kiel, Scott Pfeifer, Jamie (Justin) Rosin, Steven (Kelsey) Pfeifer, Crystal (Ryan) Prestegard, Elizabeth and Emily Prohaski; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Ackerman of Mesa, AZ and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by parents; husband, George; and brother Terry Pekron. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
