Ivan Cowell, age 66, passed away surrounded by his family Thursday December 13, 2018 at his home in Medford.
Friends may greet the family 4-7:00 PM Tuesday December 18, 2018 at the Medford Funeral Home, and one hour prior the funeral service at church. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 19 at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Medford.
Ivan was born August 30, 1952 to parents Charles and Beulah (Carlson) Cowell in Hutchinson, MN. He graduated from Freeborn High school in 1972, he then studied at Albert Lea Vo-Tech one year to be a mechanic. After that year he was hired by the Spitzack family, as a semi driver and crane operator. He married Mary Leis on May 8, 1976 in New Richland at the Congregational Church. The two stayed in the area for a few years before settling down in Medford. He worked for various companies which included, Fabricated Wood Products, starting CBC (Custom Building Components), and finally Alexander Lumber. He also worked with his family operating the Hope Oak Knoll Campground.
He was active in the Freeborn Fire Department, Medford Park Board and Zoning Board. Ivan is survived by his wife, of 42 years, Mary; daughter Angula Cowell, Mankato; son, Andrew (Jessie) Cowell, Owatonna; grandchildren, Zacheri, Desire`, Kendall, Addyson, Nora, Kate, and Emma; father, Charles, Medford; sister, Linda (Dale) Young, New Richland; brother Brian, Medford, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and brother Ervin.
