LaVonne A. Schmidt

LaVonne Anne Schmidt of Owatonna, MN passed away on February 17, 2019 at Koda Living Community. She was 95 years old.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Church in Owatonna, MN. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. Visitation will be from 9:45 am Saturday until the funeral service, with the Parish Rosary beginning at 9:45.
She was born in Paullina, IA on June 14, 1923, the daughter of Ray and Rosa Marie (Gotch-Ruther) Carlson. After graduating from Paullina High School, she later received her Associate Degree from Mankato Commercial College. She worked at Owatonna Creamery Supply, Co., Federated Insurance Companies and Owatonna City Hospital.
On November 1, 1944, LaVonne married John Schmidt at St. Joseph’s Church in Owatonna, MN. They celebrated 69 years of marriage when he passed away in 2013.
She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church including the Council of Catholic Women - St. Martha Guild. Her life interests included cooking & baking, bridge, golf, traveling, hiking, cross country skiing, and especially dancing with John. Most important to her were her Faith in God and her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful listener and always offered words of encouragement.
She is survived by her three sons, Michael (Anne) of Marshfield, WI; Gregory (Bonnie) of Prior Lake, MN; Patrick (Loreen) of Bloomington, MN; and daughter, Mary Monahan of Missoula, MT. She is further survived by grandchildren: Michelle Schmidt, Erika (Tony Rocksvold) Schmidt, Kristen (Nick) Olson, Matthew Schmidt, Andrew (Hilary) Schmidt, Daniel Schmidt, Kurt Schmidt, Katie (Phil) Cameron, Megan Monahan, Patrick (Amanda) Monahan, Maura Monahan and Allison Monahan and great-grandchildren: Marin Kees, Jared & Mitchell Merkel, Saylor & Owen Olson, Stockton Schmidt and Madeline Monahan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Margaret Martland and Kathleen Ringsdorf and brother, Arnold Carlson.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Koda Living Community and Allina Health Home Care and Hospice for their loving care to LaVonne.
