Leona M. Pogones of Owatonna died July 17, 2018 at Traditions of Owatonna. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. Burial to follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery at Litomysl. A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am at the church on Saturday.
Leona was born November 27, 1929 in Owatonna, the daughter of Frank and Lidia (Rysavy) Schiller. She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1947. Leona was united in marriage to Gilbert Pogones on January 19, 1949 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Litomysl. The couple farmed in rural Blooming Prairie. Leona was a homemaker all of her life. After retirement, the couple moved to Owatonna and Leona began to work for KSW for 12 years. Leona was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America, St. Joseph Church and the Missionary Society of Litomysl. Her life interests include fishing, playing cards and baking.
Leona is survived by her daughter Candy Pogones, of Owatonna; sisters Martha Johnson of Owatonna, Marianne (Ray) Busho of Blooming Prairie, and Dorry (Jim) Kenney of Owatonna; and one brother Frank “Bud” Schiller of Owatonna. Leona was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert, her parents, brother-in-law John Johnson, and sister-in-law Rita Schiller. Memorials may be directed to Catholic Community Adoration Chapel or St. Joseph Church.
