Frank “Bud” Schiller died January 21, 2020 at Owatonna Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 12:00 pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Litomysl. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit. Friends may greet Bud’s family on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Brick – Meger Funeral Home (1603 – Austin RD. Owatonna) and one hour before the funeral liturgy on Saturday at the church. The Owatonna Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7:00 pm at the funeral home on Friday.
Born Frank John Schiller on August 14, 1927 in Summit Township, rural Steele County the son of Frank A. and Lydia (Rysavy) Schiller. Bud attended country school at District 95 in Summit Township. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1946 serving in the Army Infantry division for two years. When Bud returned home from the service, he returned to work on the family farm. Bud was united in marriage to Rita Snider on June 7, 1951 at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie. The couple made their home on Franks family farm in Summit Township raising six children. Bud farmed his entire life on the family farm. He retired from farming in 1987 and turned the farm operation to his son John who is the third-generation farmer on that family farm. Bud also did carpentry work on the side when he was not farming, building sheds and shingling houses for many years. Bud was a member of the Owatonna Knights of Columbus, Henry Speck Assembly the Owatonna American Legion. His hobbies include woodworking, making crafts to sell at the farmers market, playing cards, playing bingo and traveling.
Bud is survived by his children, Ken (Vesta) Schiller of Hope, Kathy (Donald) Miller of Flower Mound, TX, Mike and (Deb) Schiller of Blooming Prairie, Jerry (Linda) Schiller of Owatonna, Cindy (Bruce) Jensen of Ellendale and John (Lynn) Schiller of Owatonna; 12 grandchildren and 29 Great- Grandchildren; two sisters Marianne (Ray) Busho and Dorry (Jim) Kenney both of Owatonna. Bud is preceded in death by his wife Rita, two children, one granddaughter, one great-grandson. Two sisters Martha Johnson and Leona Pogones. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s School.
