Kathleen (Kay) Kath, of Owatonna, passed away December 25, 2019.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 28, 2019 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Meriden. Friends may greet the family on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 4-7 pm at the Brick – Meger Funeral Home (1603 – Austin Road, Owatonna). The visitation will continue one hour before the funeral service at the church on Saturday.
Kay, the daughter of Ward and Matie (Moore) Fogarty, was born September 3, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN. Kay attended Waseca High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1949. On April 27, 1950 she was united in marriage to Edward Kath. After their marriage, both Kay and Eddie farmed and worked at E. F. Johnson’s. In 1956, they moved to Dexter, MN and ran the Dexter Superette until 1963. Following this, they lived in both Plainview and Waseca for a short time before making their home in Meriden in 1964. They bought Thompson’s Grocery Store which they renamed Kath Brother’s Grocery. They later added a café and feed business and in 1968 also started selling LP gas. The couple sold the business in 1995, but remained in Meriden until 2006 at which time they moved to Owatonna.
Kay was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Meriden. Her interests included baking bread, gambling with her sister’s-in-law at the casino, feeding stray cats and playing cards. Most importantly, she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her large family.
Kay is survived by children Jerry (Linda) Kath, Owatonna; Steve (Sue) Kath, Rosemount, MN; Karlie Kath (Tebra Thiele), Owatonna; Karlene (Steve) Just, Owatonna; Rhonda (Andy) Michaletz, Owatonna; and daughter-in-law Jayne Kath, Owatonna. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren,15 step great-grandchildren and 1 step great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law, Ruth Schendel, Buffalo, MN, Esther Johnson, Waseca, MN, Linda Kath, Waseca, and Diane Kath Schoenfeld, Owatonna; brothers-in-law, Elmer Kath, Owatonna, Eldon Kath, Owatonna, Ron (Kim) Kath, Waseca.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband Eddie, parents Ward and Matie Fogarty, son, Jeff, granddaughter Angel Kath, brothers-in-law, Roy Kath, Albert “Cob” Kath, Gene Schultz, Bud Schendel and Gene Johnson, and sisters-in-law LuAnn Kath and Carol Kath.
