Roger D. Hagen of Owatonna formerly of Medford died February 25, 2020 at the Owatonna Hospital. A funeral service is set for Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 10:30 am at Brick – Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna with Rev. Jacie Richmond. Friends may greet the family on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020 from 4 – 7 pm at Brick – Meger Funeral Home and one hour prior to the time of services on Saturday starting at 9:30 am. Military Honor will be provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit following the service at Owatonna Memorial Gardens.
Roger was born the son of Clarence and Alma (Swanson) Hagen on May 24, 1935 in Waseca, Minnesota. Roger attended high school in Waseca before enlisting into the United States Army in 1953 during the Korean War. Roger served his country for two years and was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Sharon Wolesky in 1957 and the couple had three children. They would later divorce. Roger worked in the field of construction for all of his working life. In retirement he worked alongside his son at Hagen Excavation. He married Janet Smith March 30, 2000 and the couple made their home in Medford and later moved to Owatonna. Roger was a member of Owatonna American Legion for 60 years. The Am vets and volunteered on the honor guard for military funerals for 10 years. His life interests include Nascar Racing, telling stories, spending time with family and grandchildren. Roger is survived by his wife Janet, children Brenda (Fernando) Gonzales of Owatonna Darren (Melanie) Hagen of Medford. eight Grandchildren, 18 Great grandchildren, Stepchildren Julie (Rick) Schmit and Tom (Ann) Ringhofer. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Jodi and one brother Donald and sister Maryls. Memorials may be directed to Steele County Funeral Unit.
